The Mitchells

Depending on whether or not a client had a particular location in mind for their session, I’ll usually suggest a rural looking, less populated area over an urban setting. But lately, I’ve been trying to switch up my preferred locations a bit!

Although I feel like nature based locations allow a little more room and comfort to get creative with using things like trees and flowers as “props,” shooting in an urban environment instead gave me a newfound appreciation for it. Being in the city (Detroit) forced me to not depend too heavily on not worrying about people accidentally photobombing a shot or clients using too many props, (the only one being a $10 chamomile bouquet I bought from Trader Joe’s.)

Putting myself in an urban environment forces me to do a little more with poses—but I will say that the Mitchell family, which includes my coworker Brandy, helped in the best of ways to make giving pose suggestions so easy! This isn’t the first time they’ve modeled for me, but I still can’t make up my mind between what was more fun with them—doing their first session a past fall season ago or now in the summer!
